Smoke Embroidered

Smoke created digitally converted into cross-stitch. The idea of this poster is based on the concept chaos and order, by turning 'chaotic' images into 'order'. Experimenting the boundaries between digital and crafts, between order and disorder. This project was created under my Masters of Art in Graphic Design at LCC. Chaos & Order

This book was designed to visually illustrate a range of experiments that explore the concept of chaos and order. The power of the grid in graphic design inspired this project, since the grid is a crucial element in finding order beneath confusion.

The Digital Crafted: Hands, Tools and Technology

‘The Digital Crafted’ explores the role graphic design has within digital and handmade processes. It investigates possible ways of transforming mass production into craft production, to bring traditional values and human attributes to a digital environment. The purpose of this project is to encourage graphic designers to rethink their ways of approaching a brief without being restricted to the use of a computer. Consideration of materials, processes and media as a central conveyor changes the meaning in communication. Similarly, I want to make the production process more creative, and ultimately, influence the creative process of the designer.

Gift set

Paradise. Gourmet-club™ have launched a new product - сoffee briquettes - for selling through their own coffee-shop network. Artel Artyomovyh (www.designartel.com) have developed the packaging design for 3 groups of coffee: classic, exclusive, maragogipe. As they intended to manufacture a small number of coffee briquettes, the design company decided to use a  common packaging design. Coffee types personification has been realized using individual stickers attached to the briquettes' surface. After that the gift set "World's best coffees" was designed. The set consists of the 8 most popular types of coffee, with the packaging designed to symbolize a traveller's suitcase. Project credits: Sergey Artemov, art director Gera Artemova, art director Kateryna Voytko, designer

The Ring

Smoky tentacles reach out from the Undertaker’s candle; its lingering wisps vow to be my faithful guide. An unearthly piano weaves a melodic embrace, heralding my impending venture into the Netherworld, where it awaits. Eagerly, I slip head-first through the loopy gateway towards that Otherworldly Bridge. Greeted and ushered by an amputated angel with black marble wings, I glided backwards down my destined path. As I unwind the sacred helix my visions blur, but finally I caught a glimpse of the raw beginning where life stir. To view more of my works, welcome to visit http://www.manxtsun.com

grado

Due to the modul-design of Grado, the separate elements may be combined individually. Depending on your taste and the space available, a large amount of combinations is possible. The Grado elements allow to be altered and extended by add-ons at any time. The main goal of Grado is to offer its owners a relaxed atmosphere. The seats are surrounded by areas allowing to put all sorts of things and serving at the same time as a comfortable back rest. During times of relaxation you don’t have to get up in order to get something, since everything is right there, where you need it. Different positions, as well as communication and cosiness come easy on the integrated upholstered steps. Seating at different levels may be easily set up for, by just unfolding the backrest paddings. This also allows to change the depth of the seat. While working with your notebook, playing games with your family or during your meals you might want to take a more upright position. Even in that case Grado offers an additional back support, right were it should be.

W.A.L.L

Wall is a divider that extends your living space, instead of limiting it. Differently sized compartments and holes in the Wall can be used to store things and to look into other rooms. These compartments and holes can be composed to different patterns, according to customers’ wishes. There are insets of various sizes to fill up the compartments and holes. By turning them, they assume new functions, e.g. as places of deposit, as tables… The insets can be pushed through the Wall from one room to the adjacent room, turning a dining table in the kitchen into a desk in the office. Wall adapts to any size of room, because it is composed of elements you can plug together in all imaginable ways. Therefore (existing) doors can be integrated into this system. You can use Wall as a wall, as a divider, a detached shelf or as a shelf hanging on the wall, e.g. above a couch.

my own

In today's hectic and fast living world it is important for children to have a little hide-away of their own, where they can play, romp or just daydream, without being disturbed. My Own does offer such a hide-away, attached to the ceiling of the minor’s room. It is possible for children to hide or play, and just to have a secret place of their own and for their playmates. In this place kids discover new adventures, develop new fantasies and creativities and are kept away from too much TV and Playstation. The entrance to the toy-n-play-house is located at the frontside and the kids climb up to it by a ladder. This “front door” can be closed by slideable dividers. These dividers offer the child a choice to hide, to build a cave, or just to take a look outside.

cherry blossom

The dining table cherry blossom consists of a wooden u-shape. A white board, with a cutout in form of a stylized cherry blossom branch, is lying on this u-shape. The wood of the u-shape is visible through the cutout. To avoid dirt accumulating in the cutout, the whole table is covered by a glass plate

squambo

The multipurpose - shelf Squambo comes in two sections of a different size. The number of sections that may be combined is almost unlimited. Section 1 consists of one large and two smaller cubes. Two small cubes match the size of a large one. Front- and backsides of all cubes are open. Section 2 consists of two large, and one small cube, half as wide as the large one. All cubes of section 1 and 2 are of identical size. The standard side length (in inches) is 14.88” and 14.88” x 7.44”. This adds up to a section size of 44.65” x 14.88” with a depth of 14.88”. Above measurements are just examples. Production of course is possible in any other size. Due to the two different sizes of cubes both sections offer an unlimited amount of combinations, when being put together. The system becomes a seat, room divider, video-/audio or wall-shelf, or just a design highlight. An alternate appearance may be realized by using different kinds of surfaces for the panels. Since for the above shelf-system Squambo only two different standard panels are used, tooling may be kept simple and cost of production should be manageable. This also requires only a small inventory during production and distributing.

seven

Seven is an experimental study of a seat- and rest-arrangement. To a certain extent the design integrates paper cardboard materials. The frame consists of smoothly bent steelbar, covered with multilayer paper. For decorative reasons the top layer is made of “banana paper” The experimental couch may be rearranged into 7 different positions. Because of its static construction it can withstand heavy use.

My Vision of A Chinese Chair

This project is about promoting Chinese culture through traditional Chinese furniture, particularly, a Ming Dynasty antique chair, an ‘official’s hat chair with four protruding ends’. The purpose of this work is to discover the relationship between Chinese culture and the chair. Furthermore, to introduce the readers to the idea of traditional Chinese furniture not merely providing visual pleasantness, but also meaningful cultural messages.

Chinese culture has become more and more popular in the West in this decade. On the international auction market, a pair of Huanghuali (rosewood) chairs was sold for about 50,000 pounds. Although my personal interest is in drawing chairs, the main inspiration for this project arose from an opportunity that I attend a lecture on the taste of traditional Chinese scholars. One of the subjects of the lecture was the Chinese antique chair which became the main form in this project. Due to that experience, It prompted me to begin focusing on Chinese traditions which are part of my culture and background. Further to that, it would seem that the promotion of Chinese arts would be the path that I would take for my future career.

Sonsoles Alvarez

Routines. 24h 360º. The beginning of something with the same end. The Identical. The Indistinguishable.

Routines are an accepted part of everyday life. It is said that routines are the feed for art and science, hence the cult for the novelty and the effort for thinking and talking with a forward-looking approach. But, beyond this paradoxical context, do routines affect us in any positive way?

In the past, existentialists and situationalists struggled with these concepts of routine, and today their thoughts are still alive. Their illustrative use to highlight the absurdity of existence appealed to them and opened the controversy. Loss of uniqueness and individuality has always existed - life is routine and routine is mundane.

This project is concerned with analyzing current social roles. It is an exploration of the identity. It aims to observe and to reflect practice rather than expose theoretical points of view. It is an attempt to define the variables of the concept within a narrative structure and a clear engagement with the reader.

Richard Weston - Radiant House

Designed for the FutureWorld exhibition at Milton Keynes, Radiant House was hailed as ‘the star of the show’. The open-plan interior unfolds beneath a stressed-skin plywood roof supported by structural glass: the building’s calm appearance belies the ingenuity of what was, in 1994, one of the world’s most ambitious glass structures.

A million style miles into the future … the most modern structure on the estate, its simplicity is refreshing. 'The Independent'

As uncompromising a piece of modernism as you could wish to see. 'Daily Telegraph'

Piero Zagami - LNS Typeface

The process of making this typeface started by creating pictograms of selected images of camera lens components. I turned those images into glyphs, using the computer but also calligraphic techniques. Following the scheme image-pictogram-glyph, I refined those shapes into abstract letterforms. The resulting book documents the process, but also explores the creative application of the letterforms combined with original film photography.
Final format: A4 publicaion, stitch binding, 64 pages; original pictures; book cover screen printed with silver ink on black paper.
