Bringing together the best of contemporary design for the home, this is a comprehensive round-up of 1000 striking and innovative objects produced in recent years. It covers furniture, storage, lighting, textiles, carpets and rugs, bathrooms, table- and kitchenware, and electronic products. Web addresses of designers and manufacturers are given for every object, along with full captions and colour illustrations, making every design easy to source. The captions provide details of materials and dimensions, numerous commentaries give an insight into current developments in design, and there is also a listing of the best design stores around the world. Work by the likes of Philippe Starck, Jasper Morrison, Ron Arad, Marcel Wanders, the Campana brothers, Karim Rashid, Ross Lovegrove, Tom Dixon, Michele de Lucchi, Erwan and Ronan Bouroullec, and Constantin Boym is featured, and there are revealing interviews with 30 top designers.

Jennifer Hudson is an editor and researcher in the fields of contemporary design and architecture, and has been the general editor of The International Design Yearbook for the past 15 years. As a freelance writer she has contributed to Frame, Canadian Interiors and Virgin in-flight magazines.

Review

This detailed sourcebook features 1,000 of the most innovative contemporary designs from the past five years. Examining the notion that the products we choose to buy reflect how we wish to be viewed by others, 1000 New Designs provides a directory of stylish homewares to assist the consumer. Some of the featured products make the book a valuable resource for both consumers and designers alike.

Review

Its not clear whether Laurence King is going to bother sending this out to the bookshops, or just blog the address of the warehouse and wait for the country’s design buffs to beat the door down. Either way they will not be disappointed.
