Review

'I enjoyed reading the book. I am impressed by the variety of the described building materials and construction methods and the large number of very expressive pictures. The book will be especially helpful for young landscape architects and students, as old and proven materials and construction methods are shown equally beside new ones.'

Gert Bischoff, University of Applied Sciences Erfurt, Germany

Review

Construction for Landscape Architecture is an original and topical book that fills an important gap on the student bookshelf. It is written in a practical, accessible style, supplemented by clear and useful illustrative diagrams, that encourages readers to engage with landscape and helps them to find materials and construction solutions for every situation.’

Dr Pedro Calaza Martínez, Member of Expert Committee of Galician Landscape School and Director of Landscape Engineering Department of Malvecin

Review

‘Construction in landscape architecture is beautifully demonstrated by Holden and Liversedge as an inventive, subtle and robust art-form mirroring the intellectual activity of design, both as a daily form of practice and as a personal aesthetic language.’

Niall Kirkwood, Professor of Landscape Architecture and Technology, Harvard Design School

Great book bridges the gap

11/04/2011

Construction teaching in landscape architecture often separates nuts and bolts from thinking, especially at the scale of human experience. This is where the essence and skin of a project can literally be sensed. This new book sees no divide and further extends construction into the context of sustainable practice.

by John Stuart-Murray, Head of School of Landscape Architecture, Edinburgh College of Art
